The doctors had decided to take a woman who had been in a coma for three months off life support. Her husband begged them to give him a few minutes alone with her so he could say goodbye. He kissed her forehead tenderly and leaned toward her ear, whispering a few chilling words, completely unaware that someone was secretly watching him from near the door.
Anna had been lying unconscious in a hospital bed for almost three months.
Not once during that time had she opened her eyes.
Every morning, her husband, Michael, arrived at the hospital before going to work. Every evening, he returned to sit beside her, sometimes staying until late at night.
He held her hand, straightened her blanket, and talked to her quietly about the little things happening at home.
“Your flowers bloomed again today,” he would tell her softly. “You would have loved seeing them.”
Sometimes, he even brought her favorite perfume and sprayed a little near her pillow. Anna had once told him how much that particular scent comforted her.
The nurses knew Michael well by then.
One afternoon, a nurse approached him and said sympathetically, “Not every husband would be able to endure something like this. Your wife is lucky to have you.”
Michael lowered his eyes and tightened his grip on Anna’s hand.
“I just want her to come back to me,” he murmured.
Everyone in the hospital believed he was a devoted husband desperately waiting for his wife to recover.
But nobody knew the truth.
Three months earlier, Anna had been involved in a horrific car accident.
Her vehicle was discovered late at night on a country road, smashed against a tree after veering off the road.
An ambulance rushed her to the hospital. The doctors fought desperately to save her life, but her injuries were devastating.
She survived, but slipped into a coma.
At first, the doctors remained hopeful.
A week passed, then another. Soon, an entire month had gone by.
Still, Anna showed no signs of waking up.
Throughout those weeks, Michael never missed a visit. He spoke with the medical staff, paid for medications, and attended every important consultation.
Even Anna’s parents were grateful for his dedication.
“We honestly don’t know how we would have gotten through this without him,” they admitted.
To everyone around him, Michael looked like a man whose world had fallen apart.
But as the third month came to an end, Anna’s condition suddenly deteriorated. Her organs began to struggle, and dangerous complications developed.
One morning, the chief physician asked Michael to come into his office.
Their conversation lasted nearly an hour.
When Michael finally emerged, his face was ashen. He sank into a chair in the hallway and buried his face in his hands.
A nurse approached him cautiously.
“I’m so sorry,” she whispered.
Michael said nothing.

Later, the doctors explained to the family that further treatment was unlikely to change Anna’s condition. After several difficult discussions, the decision was made to withdraw life support.
Michael made just one request.
“Please,” he said, his voice trembling. “Give me a few minutes alone with my wife. I need to say goodbye.”
The staff agreed and left the room.
The door clicked shut.
Michael slowly approached Anna’s bed and stood beside her, staring at her motionless face.
For a few seconds, he didn’t move.
Then he sat down, took her hand, and kissed her fingers.
“Forgive me,” he whispered.
He leaned over and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
Anyone watching from outside would have thought they were witnessing the heartbreaking farewell of a husband who couldn’t bear to lose the woman he loved.
But suddenly, Michael’s expression changed.
He glanced toward the door.
He wanted to make absolutely certain that nobody was listening.
Then he leaned closer to Anna’s ear and whispered something that revealed the man he truly was.
“Goodbye, you bitch. We’ll never see each other again.”
He straightened up.
And then, for the first time in three months, Michael smiled.
It wasn’t a smile of relief or a smile through tears.
It was the smile of a man who believed he had finally escaped the consequences of his actions.
But he was wrong.
Terribly wrong.
What Michael didn’t know was that police officers were waiting in the room next door, listening carefully to every word.
And they already knew far more than he could have imagined.
Because Anna had regained consciousness two days earlier.
The doctors had deliberately kept the news secret.
They hadn’t told her parents.
And they certainly hadn’t told Michael.
Anna was still extremely weak. Speaking required an enormous effort, and even the smallest movement exhausted her.
But her memory had returned.
And she remembered what had happened that night.
As soon as she was able to communicate, she asked the doctors to contact the police.
Her revelation changed everything.
On the evening of the accident, Anna had discovered that Michael had been secretly taking money from their joint bank account for months.
When she confronted him, the argument quickly escalated.
Anna told him she intended to divorce him.
Later that evening, the two of them left the city together.
Somewhere along the country road, Michael attacked her.
He then placed her unconscious body inside the car and deliberately sent the vehicle crashing off the road, hoping the accident would kill her and make the whole thing look like a tragedy.
He believed nobody would ever discover what he had done.
But fate intervened.
A passing driver noticed the wreckage, stopped, and immediately called emergency services.

Anna was rescued before it was too late.
For three months, Michael had visited her hospital room almost every day.
Now, the meaning behind his devotion became horrifyingly clear.
He hadn’t been sitting beside his wife because he couldn’t imagine life without her.
He had been waiting for her to die.
And every day she remained alive was another day he feared she might wake up and expose him.
Once Anna told the police what she remembered, investigators devised a plan.
The doctors would tell Michael that Anna’s condition had become hopeless and that life support was about to be withdrawn.
They wanted to see how he would react when he believed his wife would never be able to speak again.
The officers suspected that, convinced he was finally safe, Michael might reveal something incriminating.
And their suspicions were correct.
Everything happened exactly as they had hoped.
Moments after whispering those cruel words to Anna, Michael walked out of the room, wearing the expression of a grieving husband once more.
But two police officers were waiting in the hallway.
“Sir, we need you to come with us,” one of them said.
Michael stopped.
“What? What’s going on?”
“Turn around and place your hands behind your back.”
The color drained from his face.
“What is this? You can’t be serious!”
One officer reached for his arm.
And then, from inside the hospital room, a faint voice broke the silence.
“Michael.”
He froze.
He knew that voice.
Slowly, almost afraid to believe what he was hearing, he turned toward the open doorway.
Anna was lying in bed with her eyes open.
She was pale and weak, but she was looking directly at him.
There was no confusion in her eyes.
No uncertainty.
Only recognition.
“I remember everything,” she whispered.
Michael stared at her, unable to utter a single word.
For three months, he had played the role of a devoted husband so convincingly that everyone had believed him.
He had thought time was on his side.
He had thought Anna would never wake up.
And he had thought he could finally walk away from the woman he had tried to kill.
But now, as the police took hold of his arms, he understood the terrible truth.
Anna was alive.
She remembered everything.
And his perfect performance was finally over.
